Health & Your eyes

Taking Care

LOOKING GOOD IS IMPORTANT,
BUT YOUR EYES ARE OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.

Two of KITE’s founding team are qualified optometrists, giving us a clear vision of what the perfect experience should be. So, just as our style advisors take their time helping you find your perfect frames, so our optometrists take their time to test and analyse the health of your eyes thoroughly and get to know them.

HOW AN EYE TEST SHOULD BE

Our optometrists have one mission: to examine your eyes. They leave the looks-based stuff to the team beyond their hi-tech eye-testing rooms.

Examining your eyes isn’t simply about your prescription; it’s a complete health check. The eyes give us an incredible insight into what’s happening elsewhere in the body. So, as well as examining them for common eye conditions such as glaucoma and cataracts, we’ll screen you for potential general health issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure, too.

OUR GLASSES AND SUNGLASSES ARE MADE ONLY USING HIGH-PERFORMANCE ZEISS LENSES.

We’ve teamed up exclusively with the industry leader because, quite simply, they produce the best lenses out there.

They’re beautifully light, extra strong and easy to clean. Plus ZEISS have always got an eye on what’s next, too, leading the way in optical innovation.

This unique approach combined with cutting edge technology is great news for the health of your eyes, as well as the quality of your lenses.

Choosing the right
lenses for you...

We know how confusing it can be choosing from lots of different lens types. That’s why we exclusively use industry leader, ZEISS, and study your prescription carefully before recommending the best lens to suit your vision and lifestyle.

Distance/Reading

Perfect if you’re short or long-sighted and want your glasses with the same prescription across the whole lens, from top to bottom.

VARIFOCALS

In your 40s, it’s normal to start finding it more difficult to focus at close range. Because single vision lenses only work for near or far vision, and bifocals do both but blur everything in between, varifocals offer the best of everything. They look just like single vision lenses but provide clear vision all the way from distance to near.

BIFOCALS/TRIFOCALS

Bifocals provide clear vision for two different ranges, trifocals for three – and usually for distance, intermediate and near vision. The lens is basically split into sections, with each one used for the different ranges of vision

OFFICE

If you spend a lot of time in front of a computer or in an enclosed space, it’s a good idea to choose a lens designed to look after your eyes in this type environment – or you could experience strained vision, tired eyes, headaches and even neck and back pain. Perfect ‘work’ glasses.

Digital

These lenses are specifically designed for anyone in their 30s and 40s who is experiencing near vision problems for the first time. They’re a great first pair, or the next step for existing, single vision glasses wearers.

Thin

A stronger prescription needn’t mean a thicker, heavier lens. This ZEISS innovation makes it possible to produce flat, light lenses that offer a great level of vision and comfort, even for high prescriptions. There’s a range of lens depths available and our optometrists will recommend the right lens thin-ness for your prescription.

SELF-TINTING

ZEISS’ PhotoFusion® is the next generation of self-tinting lenses, turning dark and clear faster than ever. They adapt quickly to changing light conditions, darkening in just 15–30 seconds and fading back in 5–10 minutes, while always providing complete solar UV prote

PRELIMINARY CHECKS

We’ll usually kick off your appointment with a few basic tests, such as an eye pressure check (where we use a machine to blow a puff of air into your eye), or ask you to monitor flashing lights on a screen. Don’t worry, they’re quick, painless and are important to help us spot any early signs of glaucoma.

To get an in-depth analysis of your eyes, we use the latest equipment to take a digital photograph of your retina (the back of the eye), which helps us determine their condition. It’s also a reference point for the next time you come and see us, enabling us to keep an eye on any changes that might happen over time.

DURING THE EYE EXAM

Your optometrist will spend about 25 minutes with you, using a range of tests to assess your sight. They’ll establish how clearly you can see both near and far, including your ability to change focus, which can decrease with age and cause your vision to become blurred. Plus they’ll also look for signs of eye conditions such as cataracts which can come with age, as well as tests to assess your general health and whether you’re at risk of conditions like diabetes.

DESIGNED AROUND YOU

Once your eye test is complete, we’ll email you your digital eye photo and prescription. We’ll also send you home with your optometrist’s details so that you can drop them a line with any questions about your eyes, without having to make another appointment. Plus, we’ll also make sure that you see the same optometrist next time you come and see us. It’s all about making sure you go away feeling totally confident that your eyes are in good shape, and good hands.
